Development in Hughenden
Municipal Development Plan
A Municipal Development Plan (Bylaw #513-20) functions as a principal long-range land use planning document for the Village of Hughenden. The MDP was updated in 2020 and found here.
Land Use Bylaw
The Land Use Bylaw for the Village of Hughenden was developed in 1998 (Bylaw # 413) and guides the development in the Village. The bylaw provides general requirements and restrictions to development of properties within the Village. The LUB can be found here.
Development Permits
Development within the Village requires a Permit. Development Permit Application here is to be completed and submitted to the Village Office. It is important to start discussion with the Administrator early in the planning process. Development Applications that are outside of the LUB guidelines require Council Approval which takes additional time.

Planning Document Hierarchy
The documents for development provided on this page are guided overall by the MGA. The MGA requires that each level is consistent with the level above and below it, and that the policies or regulations within planning document(s) at each level may be implemented by those below them in the decision-making process. The MGA provides the legislative authority for municipal land use planning and decision-making. Where there is a conflict or inconsistency between a higher-level planning document and a lower-level planning document, the higher-level planning document prevails to the extent of the conflict or inconsistency.
